New Delhi, Oct 1: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has apologised to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the controversy that marred the Asia Cup final on September 28, but has declined to return the winner’s medals and trophy.

Sources told India Today that Naqvi adopted a conciliatory tone at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting, admitting that events following India’s victory over Pakistan “should not have unfolded the way they did.”

The apology comes after ugly scenes at the presentation ceremony in which Naqvi, also serving as ACC chief, withheld the trophy and medals when Indian players refused to accept them from his hands. Instead, Naqvi instructed ACC officials to remove the mementos from the ground, preventing India from celebrating its triumph
