Mumbai: Vijaya Dashami, also known as Dussehra, is one of the most significant festivals in Hindu tradition. Celebrated on the tenth day (Dashami Tithi) of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashwin, it marks the triumph of good over evil. According to mythology, Lord Rama defeated Ravana on this day, symbolizing the victory of dharma over adharma. It is also believed that Goddess Durga slayed the demon Mahishasura on the same day.
Beyond being a celebration of victory, Vijaya Dashami is also considered an auspicious time to invite Goddess Lakshmi’s blessings before Diwali. Astrology and spiritual beliefs suggest that lighting diyas (lamps) at certain places on Dussehra night brings positive energy, removes financial troubles, and opens the doors to happiness and prosperity.
