EL CENTRO — The Imperial Irrigation District (IID) Board of Directors took formal action Tuesday, adopting a resolution to proclaim a local emergency in Imperial County following the widespread destruction caused by Tropical Storm Mario.

The move is a critical step to secure state disaster assistance and mitigate the financial impact on customers for the extensive repairs needed to the energy infrastructure.

Tropical Storm Mario battered the region beginning the evening of September 18, bringing destructive winds, torrential rain, and significant flooding. The severe weather caused extreme peril to public safety and inflicted severe damage on IID's power grid.
