MERIDEN, Connecticut — It's been quite a week for the infrastructure on South Colony St. in the city of Meriden . First, a gas leak last Wednesday. Then, a water main break on Tuesday.
All within the same block between Gold and Olive Streets.
“This just felt like a normal day, it was not shocking at all," resident of 12 years, Debra Martinez said. “I pulled in the driveway, heard a big boom, I turned around, and the ground had opened up and water was just flooding everywhere.”
The boom left a geyser-like spray of water coming from between slabs of asphalt, and the pressure caused the road to strain and curve upwards even more. Fortunately, help was not far behind.
