The National Fire Protection Association announced on Sept. 29, 2025, that “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home” will be the theme for Fire Prevention Week, which runs Oct. 5-11, 2025.

Lithium-ion batteries power most electronics, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, e-cigarettes, headphones, and toys. However, if these batteries are not used correctly or are damaged, they can overheat and cause a fire or explode. In response to these potential risks, the NFPA, the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week for more than 100 years, is focusing on the safe use of the batteries.
