Two Trained Harris’s Hawks Vanished After a UTV was Stolen
Inglewood police are investigating the theft of two Harris’s hawks taken Sunday from outside SoFi Stadium, where the birds were being used during an NFL game to deter nuisance wildlife.
Authorities said the theft occurred around 2:22 p.m. when a man drove off in a maroon two-seat utility task vehicle (UTV) from the stadium’s lake area. The UTV was carrying green containers that held the hawks, named Alice and Bubba.
The vehicle and containers were recovered Tuesday morning near Avalon and Century boulevards, Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts said. The hawks, however, were missing, and two quails intended as their food were discovered dead, apparently stabbed with a sharp object. Police have opened an animal cruelty investigation.
