SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- The local effect of a government shutdown won't be as noticeable for people who don't work in the federal government.

Mail services won't be affected by the shutdown.

The government shutdown shouldn't affect airports either, since their employees are considered essential.

The most noticeable impact of the shutdown includes shutting down national parks, including the ones here in Central New York.

Medicaid and Social Security won't be affected. But wait times on customer service lines may be longer due to staff being furloughed.

The NYSDOT said it doesn't expect the shutdown to impact the I-81 Viaduct Project or any other federally funded projects.
