LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County Public Schools Superintendent Brian Yearwood and Chief Financial Officer Eddie Muns updated the district Tuesday on its plans to cut $132 million from its 2026-27 budget. In total, the district faces a $188 million shortfall.

“Budget cuts will begin with the central office, which will bear a large share of these reductions,” Yearwood said.

Yearwood vowed JCPS will not lay off teachers.

“We’re going to preserve teachers and the daily rate of pay," Yearwood said. "We are not laying off teachers. I want to be very clear with that. That’s not happening."

In addition, Yearwood said every division chief must now submit proposed reductions for review. Muns reported selling district investments is unavoidable.
