LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Hundreds of shelters around the United States are uniting with the Bissell Pet Foundation to "Empty the Shelters." The national animal welfare organization is dedicated to ending pet homelessness.

The Kentucky Humane Society is one of 868 partners throughout Kentucky and the United States participating in the “Empty the Shelters” initiative. Andrea Mattingly, PR and marketing director, said oftentimes people are interested in puppies and kittens, but adult pets can suit every lifestyle and every family situation.

“I think a lot of times, people are attracted to growing up with something young and cute and cuddly," she said. "But we know very well that our adult dogs and cats also have so much love to give and deserve very fitting homes, too."
