PROVIDENCE – Last Friday, a large waxing crescent moon rose over Roger Williams Park Zoo during an unseasonably warm evening. The hot air was still thick with moisture from rain earlier in the week. Near the zoo's entrance in an enclosure for African birds, a lone hadada ibis screeched at dusk.

That set the stage for opening night of this year’s Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, which continues the trivia theme introduced last fall. Along the trail, visitors encounter 15 questions scattered throughout the displays. Each section has a rotating playlist of themed music and six or so pumpkins etched with possible answers (along with dozens of other more generic carved pumpkins). Guests pause, take their best guess, and move on to the next section, where a new question awaits.
