MENTONE, Ind. -- At 4:54 a.m. Wednesday, Kosciusko County emergency personnel were dispatched to a crash between a semi and a train at the intersection of S.R. 25 and S.R. 19 in Mentone, Indiana.

Upon their arrival, the semi was fully engulfed in flames so severe that officials have yet to be able to identify the make or model.

Preliminary investigation determined that the semi was heading west on S.R. 25 before the driver missed a left turn, driving off the roadway, disabled on the tracks. A Norfolk Southern train was heading east when it struck the trapped semi.

The semi driver, a 60-year-old man, was airlifted from the scene to Fort Wayne to receive treatment for internal injuries.
