Eleven police personnel were killed in Manipur by “riotous mobs” in 2023, according to a report published by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

A total of 24 civilians were killed by extremists during that year in the northeastern state, which witnessed ethnic conflict between Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and adjoining hills-based tribal Kukis from May 2023.

“Fifteen police personnel were reported killed on duty, including 11 by riotous mobs in 2023,” the report said.

It said that 24 civilians were killed by extremists/insurgents in firing, the “highest” in the country in 2023.
