President Donald Trump is an “idiot” for suggesting that “dangerous cities” be used as “training grounds” for the military, a Democratic senator said Tuesday.

“Look, the president’s an idiot. He doesn’t actually understand how the military works,” Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz. told CNN .

Gallego was responding to Trump’s address to generals and flag officers in Quantico, Virginia earlier in the day.

“We should use some of these dangerous cities as training grounds for our military,” Trump said, according to the Associated Press.

The president also claimed the country is “under invasion from within. No different than a foreign enemy but more difficult in many ways because they don’t wear uniforms.”
