OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - Oshkosh police are reminding everyone to remove valuable items from their cars and trucks -- especially firearms -- after dozens of thefts this year.

The Oshkosh Police Department says it’s investigated 36 theft reports since March. Firearms were taken in five of those thefts, and in three cases the vehicle with the firearm inside wasn’t locked.

Police remind you:

Don’t leave items in plain sight in your vehicle;

Remove firearms, gift cards and other valuable items from a vehicle. If you can’t remove it, make sure it’s hidden;

Lock your vehicle, even when it’s in your garage;

Lock all doors in your home, and close and lock all first-floor windows;

Keep porch lights and other outdoor lighting on all night to increase visibility around your home and make it hard
