WASHINGTON (KLTV) - The U.S. Government has shut down for the first time in six years.

The move comes after lawmakers failed to reach an agreement on funding before Tuesday’s midnight deadline. Lawmakers will be back on Capitol Hill for more negotiations Wednesday, with the main issue being health care funding.

Democrats are looking to reverse the Medicaid cuts in President Donald Trump’s massive spending bill and extend tax credits that would make insurance premiums more affordable. Republicans are calling the proposal a nonstarter that would cost taxpayers more than one trillion dollars. 60 votes are required for approval, which requires cooperation between the two parties.
