Man grabs rifle during encounter with Hopkins County deputies

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (WEVV) — A Hopkins County man armed himself with a rifle during an encounter with deputies on Tuesday.

Deputies say they were called to a dispute on Racetrack Road in Dawson Springs on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say 53-year-old Ray Shearon had assaulted multiple victims at the scene. They say they were told Shearon also had multiple firearms at the home.

Deputies say they contacted Shearon over the phone and told him multiple times not to come outside with any weapons.

After deputies arrived at the scene, they say Shearon was outside but refused to comply with commands, then went inside and came back out armed with a rifle.

While Shearon was handling the rifle, deputies say he made gestures to make them believe he was preparing the weapon to fire.
