QUINCY (WGEM) - The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) recently issued new fall COVID-19 vaccine guidelines, some of which are different than the federal guidelines.

The IDPH recommends all adults 18 years and older, as well as children with underlying risk factors or those whose parents want them to, get the vaccine.

IDPH Chief Medical Officer Arti Barnes said these guidelines also vary from federal guidelines as the IDPH also recommends children between six months and two years get the vaccine.

“We think this is an important group,” Barnes said. “We are seeing that this group has been disproportionately affected by hospitalizations from COVID and most of the children in this group who have been admitted for COVID-19 complications have not had underlying risk factors.”
