The Aug. 22 fire released millions of gallons of oily material into ponds and waterways. Landry has pressed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to speed up the response after video posted by a local resident showed lingering oily residue. EPA officials say about 2 million gallons have been removed so far, with as much as 2 million more remaining.

EPA contractors continue working along the Tangipahoa River, where containment booms are in place at more than 30 sites.
