HOUSTON (KIAH) — Gov. Greg Abbott is in Houston to announce a new initiative to help with violent crime in the state, but several local leaders were not invited to the press conference.
Abbott is planning a press conference at the Texas Department of Public Safety regional office in Houston at 2 p.m. He plans to announce a “new public safety initiative to combat violent crime and protect Texans,” his press office said.
But joining him at the press conference is Texas DPS Col. Freeman Martin, Crime Stoppers of Houston senior director Sydney Zuiker and Houston Police Officers executive director Ray Hunt. Other state and local leaders will be there, but were not announced by Abbott’s office.
Noticeably missing from the list are Houston Mayor John Whitmire, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo,
