PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Peoria Mayor Rita Ali issued a statement Tuesday about a hostile crowd’s actions against police after a shooting early Sunday in the downtown area.

Ali said what happened was not only unacceptable, but it was also an attack on public safety and the community’s values.

Five people are charged with aggravated battery, with one of the suspects also charged with trying to disarm a police officer after a person was critically injured with a gunshot wound to the chest.
