SOMERSET — Franklin Township has introduced an ordinance that would prohibit the routine or primary use of on-site generators powered by fossil fuels, petroleum products, or other combustible materials.

The measure, introduced this week, establishes strict limits on generator use in non-emergency situations. Exceptions would include temporary outages, maintenance, construction, and certain mobile operations. Violations could carry fines of $500 to $2,000 per day.

A public hearing and discussion is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, when residents will have the opportunity to weigh in before final adoption.
