EDISTO ISLAND — A woman charged with felony DUI in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian this weekend had previously been charged with driving under the influence, records show.
Deputies with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office responded to Highway 174 and Pine Landing Road on Edisto Island just after 7 p.m. on Sept. 27. They discovered a vehicle had fatally struck a pedestrian, according to a statement from the department.
The county coroner’s office identified the victim as John Singleton, a 65-year-old from Edisto Island. Singleton was pronounced dead at the scene. He died from blunt force injuries, according to Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal.
