MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Mobile Fire-Rescue is observing Fire Prevention Week with two Fire & Life Safety Expos at local schools next week, according to a news release.

Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 5-11 and MFRD is using the week to raise awareness and education of fire safety.

That awareness campaign began yesterday with a Smoke Alarm Blitz in the Autumndale community, where a 5-year-old boy lost his life in a fire. Crews inspected 138 homes and installed 70 smoke alarms.

Next are two expos where firefighters will show off their trucks and equipment, host demonstrations and more for students.
