As the Holland Performing Arts Center prepares for its 20th anniversary celebration, we are taking a closer look at how it came to be.
We sat down for a discussion with one of the women who made it all happen.
Since the foundation of the Holland Center, Omaha Performing Arts president Joan Squires has been a force behind it all.
She did not always call the Holland Center her home. Before Squires came to Omaha, she was the president and CEO of the Phoenix Symphony.
With the Holland Center, she had to build from the ground up.
"When I got to town, I got a desk, a computer, a stagehand, and they said, 'Go.' ... There was no Holland Center. There was no strategic plan. There was no budget, there was no staff," said Squires.
