Two Waterloo regional councillors are calling for significant changes to the automated speed camera program.

Coun. Colleen James wants to pause the expansion of speed cameras in the region, while Regional Coun. Doug Craig from Cambridge wants them shut down immediately.

A motion is set to be tabled on Oct. 7 by James at the administration and finance committee. It proposes to halt the installation of all new speed cameras and freeze hiring new employees who process the tickets.

“I think just to be mindful, especially for the community to know that we’re not expanding at this present time, we’ll wait until the (October) 20th to see what exactly is tabled. I think that community deserves that,” said James.
