ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - The Mockingbird Branch of the Abilene Public Library will close at the end of October as the city prepares to open two new library locations in 2026.

The library will close its doors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31, 2025. Its closure marks a transition to two new branches planned inside the Cesar Chavez Recreation Center and the G.V. Daniels Recreation Center.

“This transition is not a goodbye—it’s a strategic expansion,” city officials shared. “By placing branch libraries inside city recreation centers, the Abilene Public Library will be able to connect with more residents, continue to offer engaging programs, and collaborate directly with the Parks & Recreation Department.”
