PEIDMONT, S.C. (WSPA) - Isuzu North America broke ground on a massive, 1-million-square-foot production facility in Piedmont Wednesday.
In February, the company announced plans to set up its new U.S. production base in the Upstate.
"It’s another signal to the whole world that this is the place where the biggest and the best go to build their automobiles," said Governor Henry McMaster. "That’s what we like.”
Japan's Ambassador to the U.S., Shingeo Yamada, also took part. He said this deal continues a strong relationship between Japan and South Carolina.
"By now, about $9.2 billion has been invested by Japanese companies across South Carolina,” Yamada said.
Local leaders said this is one of Greenville County's biggest job boosts in years, with over 700 new positions coming.
