CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has determined the overpass that was hit by a truck on I-95 South in Cranston Tuesday afternoon is structurally sound.
Charles St. Martin, a spokesperson for RIDOT, told 12 News workers inspected the bridge, which carries Route 10 over I-95 South, overnight.
Though the bridge as a whole is safe to drive over, St. Martin said the outermost beam on the southbound side of the bridge did sustain damage in the crash.
St. Martin said the travel lane directly above the damaged beam will remain closed out of an abundance of caution.
The tractor-trailer that hit the overpass was carrying an intermodal office for Illinois-based Fastex Logistics INC, according to the Rhode Island State Police.
