TEWKSBURY, Mass. (WPRI) — Ousted Market Basket CEO Arthur T. Demoulas is attempting to stage a comeback.
Demoulas filed a counterclaim against Market Basket's Board of Directors Wednesday which answers the accusations made against him in a lawsuit explaining his firing last month.
"He is not seeking monetary damages but for the court to find that the board's actions were unlawful and to reinstate him," Demoulas spokesperson Lauren Matteodo explained in a statement.
Tensions had been growing between Demoulas and the board, which is controlled by his three sisters, for months. The sisters each control 20% of the company, while Demoulas owns 28%. The remaining 12% is owned by a trust for the grandchildren.
