PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) -- A Pennsylvania Senator is looking to protect children in the Commonwealth during the "alarming rise" of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The legislation, authored by Sen. Tracy Pennycuick, argues that there has been a "startling increase" in AI-generated CSAM being created and shared, with schools being far from immune to the issue. Pennycuick added that the harmful images and depictions are being produced by both adults and, in some cases, fellow students.

"The damage inflicted by the creation and dissemination of these materials can be devastating," Pennycuick wrote. "For minors, already in the formative stages of their lives, the trauma, anxiety, and fear caused by these acts can be life-altering."
