Former 49ers defensive lineman Arik Armstead used Sunday’s matchup against his old team to share a heartfelt tribute.

Before taking the field with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Armstead wore a shirt reading “Amy Strong” in support of Amy Kocurek, the wife of 49ers defensive line coach Kris Kocurek, who currently is battling cancer.

The gesture carried extra weight in the Bay Area, where Armstead played eight seasons after being selected by San Francisco in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. The 31-year-old defensive end signed a three-year contract with Jacksonville in 2024 after the 49ers released him.

He developed a close bond with Kocurek during his time in San Francisco, where the veteran coach remains in his seventh season leading the 49ers’ defensive line.
