An attempt to ban fishing at Mindarie Marina in response to concerns over antisocial behaviour has fallen short after the City of Wanneroo council voted not to proceed with the request at this point in time.

A 35-signature petition from local residents had called for the “immediate banning of recreational and public fishing activity within Mindarie Marina, including along all boardwalks, jetties and pontoons” under the city’s control.

The council had been recommended by city staff to consult the community on a potential ban on recreational and public fishing in the marina but members voted 7–5 to not proceed to that stage.
