REPUBLIC, Mo. (KY3) - Visitors showing up to relive Civil War history at the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield in Republic found the doors to the visitor center locked.
The National Parks began their contingency plan as a part of the federal shutdown. Though Wilson’s Creek employees were not available for an interview, the National Park Service did release its plan for the shutdown, which included:
Park roads, lookouts, trails, and open-air memorials will generally remain accessible to visitors.
The NPS will not issue permits, conduct interpretive or educational programs, collect trash, operate or provide restrooms, maintain roads and walkways (including plowing and ice melting), or provide visitor information.
