ALEXANDRIA BAY, New York (WWNY) - Leaping from a helicopter into the St. Lawrence River.

That’s what members of the New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team did on Wednesday as part of a training operation.

The team is responsible for locating people, evidence, and weapons underwater in support of investigations across the state.

Often in more remote or rural areas, like in the Adirondacks, when lakes or rivers can’t be accessed by vehicle, a helicopter is necessary to access the scene of investigation. State Police Sergeant Neil Case says it’s important for the divers to stay sharp on their skills.
