LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A man was killed while riding a bicycle in Lincoln County on Monday.

The crash happened on NC 73 near South Pilot Knob Road, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Jaycob Neece, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was found around 9:50 a.m.

Investigators say Neece was traveling on NC 73 when he was struck by a 2014 Honda CR-V around 3:05 a.m.

The driver of the Honda, Brian James, drove off into Mecklenburg County after the crash, officials said.

James, 30, was arrested in Huntersville and charged with felony hit and run and misdemeanor death by vehicle. He is being held with a $40,000 bond in Lincoln County jail.
