GILBERT, AZ (AZFamily) — A teenage girl has died days after a single-car crash in Gilbert that left several kids injured when they slammed into a tree.

On Wednesday, Gilbert police confirmed that a 16-year-old girl died from her injuries late Tuesday. She has not yet been identified.

“Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time,” the police department said in a prepared statement.

Gilbert police said the crash happened just after 10 p.m. on Williams Field Road, just east of Gilbert Road , where five kids were hurt when the driver was headed westbound and, for an unknown reason, collided with the tree.

Four of five teens had to be hospitalized. Two of which are still receiving care, police said Wednesday.
