PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Phoenix Police Chief Matt Giordano says he continues to emphasize de-escalation strategies in the wake of a recent string of shootings involving his officers.

On Thursday, the police head said that the agency was involved in six police shootings in the past six weeks, explaining he knows how concerning this could be to some people in the community.

“We remain committed to continuous improvement. Policing demands courage, split-second decision making, and compassion in the toughest moments,” Giordano said. “While every situation is different, and often rapidly evolving, we continue to place a focus on de-escalation strategies and the use of less-lethal options whenever possible. ”
