Mahoning Valley - The Mahoning Valley Association of Churches has condemned the deadly September 28 shooting at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan.

Authorities stated the gunman killed four people and injured eight others during a large service. Suspect, Thomas Jacob Sanford, drove a pickup truck through the church doors before opening fire and eventually setting the building itself on fire.

"Places of worship must always remain sacred spaces — sanctuaries of peace, prayer and hope," the association said in its statement. "Any act of violence against them is an attack on the very heart of our shared humanity."
