CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The federal government has entered a shutdown for the first time in nearly seven years after failed negotiations in Congress.

The shutdown began at midnight on Wednesday and is expected to affect federally run programs. Paul Herrnson, a professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Connecticut, explained that the shutdown will halt business services, training for veterans, and limit operations at national parks.
