The Kenai Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam involving a caller posing as a “Sergeant” from the department, claiming citizens must call a separate number to discuss Grand Jury matters. The department shared the alert on their Facebook page on Tuesday afternoon and encouraged the public to share the warning to prevent further incidents.
According to Lieutenant Ben Langham, the department received five to six reports in just a two-hour span early Tuesday morning.
“People were saying they got a call from someone claiming to be with KPD, telling them they had grand jury and needed to call another number to provide more info,” Langham said. “We would never make that kind of call.”
