CHEROKEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) - The Cherokee County School District Board of Trustees held a special meeting Wednesday, revealing a candidate for the superintendent position has been selected.

According to the school board, a preferred superintendent has been discussed and contract negotiations are in the work. The candidate's identity has not been revealed as there are still under contract somewhere else.

Dr. Thomas White has served as the Interim Superintendent for Cherokee County School District since Dr. Dana White's resignment in June 2024.

A hire was attempted in 2024, however the board said they didn't feel as if it were a right fit. They emphasized putting students first and that the new leader was chosen bas on the community expectations.
