BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Former Bismarck City Commissioner Steve Marquardt announced his run for mayor on Tuesday.
Marquardt wants to focus on affordable housing and believes his 18 years in public service give him the experience necessary for the office.
“There’s a lot of different tough issues where we’ll have to have a discussion, especially in the current climate that we’re in, and also moving forward as far as with the growth of the city of Bismarck,” said Marquardt.
Marquardt is the first person to announce a run since Mayor Mike Schmitz announced his bid for reelection.
The election will take place on June 9, 2026.
