OWEGO, N.Y. (WENY) -- Tioga County, New York, and a former District Attorney have reached a settlement with Cal Harris, the man who faced four trials before his eventual acquittal over the disappearance of his wife in 2001.
Harris previously sued Tioga County, officials with the District Attorney's Office and New York State Police over civil right violations and malicious prosecution claims. The lawsuit was filed in a Syracuse Federal Courthouse in 2017.
The case against the New York State Police will proceed to trial on Oct. 27, according to Harris' attorney Bruce Barket.
Harris was accused of murder years after the disappearance of his wife Michele on September 11, 2001. He was convicted twice, but those convictions were overturned. His third trial ended in a mistrial. Harris was acqu
