An online survey by BC Hydro revealed that Gen Z and younger millennials fall behind on emergency preparedness compared to adults in the older generations.

The survey found that more than half of young adults between the ages of 18 and 34 do not have emergency kits ready.

By contrast, the majority of adults between 35 and 54 years old reported having emergency kits, as well as nearly half of those over 55.

BC Hydro warns of the upcoming La Niña — a season of cool and wet weather with increased storms. The 2024 storm season resulted in over 1.4 million BC Hydro customers losing power due to extreme weather.

Spokesperson Susie Rieder said the volatility of the upcoming La Niña season is "expected to intensify storm activity this fall and winter."
