BUFFALO, N.Y. — Former President Donald Trump is again proposing a 100 percent tariff on films produced outside the United States, a move that has raised questions across Hollywood and beyond.
President Trump first floated the idea back in May, writing on Truth Social that “the movie industry in America is dying a very fast death.” He renewed the proposal this week but has not provided details on how such a tariff could be implemented.
Earlier in the spring, when the proposal was announced, there was a lot of talk among the industry. Some "people were excited about the potential of getting production back, because so much has been lost overseas."
