IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Residents, local leaders, and other advocates gathered in Modern Manor Mobile Home Park today, many saying the latest rent hike - set to take effect in December - will push already struggling families to make difficult financial decisions.

“They live high on the hog, and we continue to suffer. They fight us when we have to stand up. We’ve had to show humility to save the truth and the courage to stand up to what they’re doing to us, and then they retaliate on us,” said Modern Manor resident Judy McKillip.

Among those residents were members of Johnson County Residents United.

They are requesting a two year moratorium on rent hikes, and demanding clean, drinkable water, and park maintenance and safety.
