U.S. District Court Judge Waverly Crenshaw, the Obama-appointed judge overseeing the federal human smuggling case against Kilmar Abrego Garcia, last week ordered the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Abrego Garcia's attorneys to submit updates on their handling of his July order prohibiting counsel from making extrajudicial statements about the defendant without acknowledging that he is innocent until proven guilty.
Those reports must be submitted to the court by Friday, but Crenshaw additionally said the prosecutors must respond to the August request by Abrego Garcia's attorneys to issue an order prohibiting U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi from making extrajudicial comments about Abrego Garcia by October 10.
