BEAUMONT, Texas — A U.S. Postal Service mail carrier was injured Wednesday afternoon after being shot several times with an Orbeez gel-based gun while delivering mail, according to Beaumont police.

Officers responded to the 2500 block of San Jacinto Street at 4:16 p.m. after receiving reports of the shooting. The mail carrier was struck in the eye during the unprovoked attack.

Police said the carrier was approached by four male juveniles while delivering mail. One of the boys fired the gel-based weapon several times before the group ran away from the scene.

All four juvenile suspects were later found and detained in the 2300 block of South 4th Street. Officers also recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the attack.
