JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A memorial ceremony for the crew of El Faro was held Wednesday at Dames Point Park in Jacksonville Port in Florida.
The park acts as a cemetery for the families of the ship's crew who never made it home after a fateful voyage 10 years ago.
The cargo ship was caught in a powerful hurricane and sank. All 33 crewmembers aboard died. Four of them were from Maine, and five graduated from Maine Maritime Academy.
Wednesday's ceremony brought families together from all over the country, some speaking out for the first time, such as crewmember Dylan Meklin's aunts, Deborah Dyer and Susan St. Clair.
"This is where I feel closest to Dylan," Dyer said.
