A stretch of Highway 1 was closed Wednesday following a collision involving a semi-truck and an Amtrak train with about 260 passengers on board.
The two large vehicles crashed around 4:15 p.m.along the train tracks near Brown Road in the Santa Maria area, according to authorities.

The driver and solo occupant of the semi-truck was hospitalized with major injuries, fire officials said. Three patients with minor injuries on the train were also transported to a nearby hospital.
The train was not derailed in the crash. Passengers remained on the bus and waited for buses to arrive and take them to their destinations.
